The Clear Light of Day
I am writing to say how much I appreciated Penelope Wilcock's recent novel The Clear Light of Day. I was browsing in a Christian bookshop in the Summer; the manager was reading the novel himself and recommended it to me as a "really good read". He didn't know that I was about to enter the Methodist ministry nor that I would find parallels in the story to my own life. I have just reread the book three months later. I think that the character portrayals are movingly drawn, and there is a great deal of honesty about the vulnerability and difficulties, but also the joy and privilege of being a (female and divorced) minister. It is indeed a 'really good read' and I found it helpful and encouraging as well. I hope that were a sequel to be forthcoming, you would welcome it. I know I would!
